Works
Year 3000
An editorial shoot photographed by me, featuring a collaged dress made of all recycled materials. Inspired by my hand-collaged postcards of the Year 3000.
Human ignorance towards change is expressed through the model’s fixation on the television, distracting herself from reality and remaining unbothered by the chaos surrounding her. The earth in the background and the borders of the collage are burning, to communicate the dangerous consequences of our unsustainable lifestyle will soon become a reality. The duplicated layers and upside down configurations of the human conveys the endless cycle of unconstructive habits.
Materials: Magazines, polymer medium, x-acto knife, wood scorch marker. lighter, candle, heat gun, invisible zipper, muslin
Esther Eng, A Queer Pioneer
A patchwork blouse that is dedicated to and tells the story of Esther Eng, a forgotten LGBTQ+ icon. As Hollywood's first Chinese female filmmaker and restaurateur who created safe queer spaces, Esther shared her intersectionality identity with pride. The tiny suits and dress shirts represents her masculine way of dressing, a colorful film roll represents her impact in the film industry, the five buildings represents her restaurants in Chinatown, New York, various coloured patches represents her lesbian identity and her initials are embroidered on the collar.
Materials: Scrap fabric, thread
