Sandy Liang & Lauren Rose
Sandy Liang takes inspiration from people, places, movies and toys from her childhood. Thus, for this collaboration collection, I took inspiration from my own childhood. Some key influences for me include Anne of Green Gables, school uniforms, homemade bubble wands, pioneer fashion and ballet attire. I also took inspiration from one of my favourite abstract artists, Faye Wei Wei, who has similar styles to Sandy Liang's brand. As well, I incorporated a range of unique fabrics, such as ribbon lace, soutache lace and a star-patterned metallic silk brocade, to bring texture and depth to the collection. Overall, I wanted to create a collection that felt bright, feminine and nostalgic, which are all qualities that reminds me of my childhood. I used gouache paint to capture the vividness and softness of these memories.
